Welcome to Back Mountain Outdoor Products

At Back Mountain Outdoor Products, Inc. we are committed to bringing you innovative products to help you fulfill your hunting and fishing dreams. The Rattlebox™ is the first in our line of products (several products are now in development) to help build a lifetime of memories. Our products are developed from the problems and/or inadequacies that I have experienced while using some of the products that I had purchased. With my strong desire and drive to perfect the art of hunting and fishing and over 30 years of experience and trained in the hard hunted and fished woods and waters of Pennsylvania, I started developing our products. We hope our products make your outdoor experiences more successful. God bless the USA, The US military and all of our hunting and fishing brothers and sisters. Welcome to the family! ~ Mike Castner

Our History

Mike's First Musky

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Mike Castner and I am a hunting and fishing addict and the CEO and founder of Back Mountain Outdoor Products, Inc. I started Back Mountain Outdoor Products because my passion for the outdoors drives me to think, "Is there a better way to do this and what can I create to make this better."

It all started at the tender age of 5 with my dad Ralph. Whenever my dad was getting ready to walk out that door to go hunting or fishing I would cry because I wanted to go. My mom would tell me that I was too young but then my dad would say, "Stop crying and get in the truck." From then on we (including my brother Ralph) would spend countless days hunting and fishing. From bass, walleye, musky, salmon to pan-fishing. From ice fishing to ocean fishing, you name it, and we did it. Then there was hunting. Years before I was 12 (the legal hunting age in PA), I would sit with my dad at his deer stand, dreaming of the day I would be sitting on my own and a big buck would walk by. Through the years we would hunt deer, squirrels, duck, pheasant, turkey, bear and everything in between.

My dad and all of the older hunters were never easy on me (my dad being a former professional boxer and from the projects of Newark, NJ didn't baby me). From the first day I was old enough to hold my first gun; I was driving for deer and bear through the worse thickets you ever saw. It wasn't much easier for rabbits and pheasants either but I loved every minute of it and wouldn't trade those memories for anything in this world. In fact, the first buck I shot was on a one man drive for my dad and it was a 130" main frame 10 pointer.

As I grew older I continued to hunt and fish with my dad Ralph until he was diagnosed with Dementia Pugilistica (boxer's dementia) in 2000. I still spend countless days either in the woods or on the water because of what he taught me and every time I grab that pole or suit up for hunting, in a way he is still right there with me. I still hunt and fish every chance I get with my brother Ralph, cousin Wayne and friends. If we aren't working, we are in the outdoors.

In 2007 I lost a dear friend of mine, my best friend Shawn. He passed away at the age of 35. Shawn loved the outdoors as much as I did. We grew up together and spent most of our time hunting and fishing. In January of 2009 my beloved father passed away at age 65. I take comfort in knowing his suffering is over and he is in a better place. Time spent outdoors with Shawn and my dad will be missed dearly and I will take their memories with me every time I go.
